Project Information
The rigid-heddle project is woven in plain weave, doubling warp threads and using a single thread for weft. The four and eight-shaft project is woven in a straight draw twill with the option of variations in tie-up and treadling.
The pattern is written for 4 napkins, a cutlery roll, and 20” of sampling, and the kit includes enough yarn and instructions to make up to 8 napkins and 2 cutlery rolls.

Caribbean Picnic is an exploration of how structure, color, spacing, and high contrast between warp and weft can create fabulous gradients that can be pushed to iridescence.
The project is picnic napkins plus a cutlery roll. The fabric for the roll utilizes thin stripes strategically placed to outline compartments, and define fold and sew lines. The tie is added into the fabric while it is still on the loom.
The pattern includes step by step instructions on weaving and sewing the cutlery roll, including access to nine videos walking you through each step of the process. It also includes a study of color gradients and the effect that different transitions between colors, and different weave structures have on the perception of the gradient.
