Getting Started: Some Things to Consider

Helpful background information:

Ideal sett (ends per inch)

Shrinkage

Yards per lb for yarn

Possible Order of operations:

Get inspired, or if you’re not, find something that you want to improve upon

Choose your yarn

Choose your color sequence

Choose your desired width

Choose your weave structure

Decide how project will be finished (hem, fringe, hemstitch, sewn into garment??)

Figure out your epi and total target number of threads

Look at colors and structure and figure out how you will use your ideal number of ends. This often takes some adjusting. Do you want your colors to line up with your structure? Do you have a limited amount of yarn of a certain color? What other considerations might you have?

Adjust as necessary

Figure out warp length and amount of yarn needed

Figure out which reed and how it will fit into your reed
