Rep Weave Placemats

Project #5

Rep Weave Placemats

This month we are exploring rep weave. These are made using a dense sett, alternating warp colors, and alternating thick and thin weft yarns.

I love the burnt orange and gold, but you can substitute any three colors. The kit includes two tubes of weft color. While the projects for four and eight shaft looms look identical, the threading and treadling are different. You can weave placemats, table runners, or both.

Rigid Heddle

Four and Eight Shaft

Note about yarn: This project was originally created to be made with all 8/2 cotton. It has been rewritten. The four and eight-shaft project uses three tubes of 8/2 and one tube of 16/8 (heavy mop cotton). The rigid-heddle pattern uses three tubes of 8/4 and one tube of 16/8. After walking hundreds of weavers through this project, we feel that this will work better. The price increase of the kit, and the difference in price between the rigid-heddle project and the four and eight-shaft project reflect these changes.
