Pinwheel Pop: Color and Weave

Left to right: Rigid-Heddle project, Four-Shaft project, Eight-Shaft project

This project explores color and weave, which is a whole different thing from the interaction of color in weaving. Color and weave is fairly simple to create and yields fabulous results. Small groups of light and dark threads alternate in both warp and weft. The number of threads that are alternating, combined with the weave structure can yield many different designs.

The rigid-heddle project is plain weave with two threads light, two threads dark alternating in both warp and the weft.

The four-shaft project is a straight twill with four threads light, four threads dark alternating in both warp and the weft.

The eight-shaft project is a slightly complex twill with eight threads light, eight threads dark alternating in both warp and the weft.

The structures themselves have a traditional look and feel. I have designed these towels with an eye towards pairing the traditional (houndstooth, plaids) with the funky (pinks, yellows, greens). Every time I look at these, I just want to giggle.

Let’s weave!
